Peculiarities of English-Language professional communication of officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: the methodological aspect

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the peculiarities of English-language professional communication of officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the context of modern requirements for military education and international military cooperation. The relevance of the study is due to the active integration of Ukraine into the Euro-Atlantic security space, the expansion of the participation of Ukrainian military personnel in joint exercises, peacekeeping missions and multinational operations, where English is the main means of professional communication.
The article reveals the specifics of English-language professional communication of officers, which are determined by the functional orientation of speech, the standardization of military terminology, the regulated nature of communicative situations, the need for rapid decision-making, and clear information exchange. Special attention is paid to the analysis of typical communicative situations of officers’ service and professional activities, in particular during staff work, operational planning, interaction with foreign partners, and the execution of tasks in a multinational environment.
The methodological aspect of the study is focused on substantiating the principles and approaches to teaching English-language professional communication within the system of training military specialists. The expediency of competency-based, communicative-activity, and professionally oriented approaches is determined, as well as the integration of language training with professional disciplines. The role of authentic materials, situational modeling, role-playing simulations, and the case method as effective means of developing officers’ foreign language communicative competence is outlined.
The obtained results may be used in the process of improving foreign language training programs for officers and developing methodological support for teaching English-language professional communication in higher military educational institutions.
