Abstract

The article is devoted to the main motivational factors that guided the student in choosing a medical specialty. The study of basic motives was carried out with the help of questionnaire of the first-year students of the second semester of Bohomolets National Medical University, who entered the specialty "Medicine" and "Dentistry". The questionnaires contained a set of basic motives, divided into three blocks: motives for choosing a specialty, motives for successful training, motives for obtaining a doctor's profession. The analysis showed that the choice of medical specialty was influenced by external and internal motives. Students were guided by a set of social and cognitive motives that were already formed in the mind under the influence of external factors and personal position. However, the article points out the differences between medical students and dental students in determining priority motives. It is also noted that students whose altruistic motives outweigh economic ones have a better learning average.
